On Oct. 1, advocates for children’s health gathered in Beverly Hills, Calif., for the 23rd Annual Healthy Child Healthy World Gala.

galaLaura Turner Seydel, an international environmental advocate, eco-living expert and chairperson of the Captain Planet Foundation, delivered the keynote address. She called on parents to influence policymakers and change the marketplace to protect children from exposure to harmful chemicals.

She commended Healthy Child Healthy World and EWG for the educational resources they give parents. “We need resources that help us keep our families safe,” said Seydel, “especially when the government can’t and corporations won’t.”

Nancy Chuda

Healthy Child Healthy World founder Nancy Chuda honored the life and memory of her daughter Colette. Colette’s tragic passing from cancer at age 5 inspired the Chudas to found Healthy Child in 1991 and launch a tireless fight for children’s health. Learn more about Colette and how the Chudas’ vision lives on today.

Other speakers included Ken Cook, president and co-founder of EWG; Kelly Herman, Healthy Child program director; Nina Montée Karp, a producer, director, activist and founding board member of Healthy Child Healthy World; and Heather White, EWG executive director.

“You are your children’s best advocate,” Cook said. “Advocate on their behalf.”

White also encouraged the audience to stand up for children’s health: “No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.”
