How walking can add years to your life

What happens when you sit hours on end doing your work? If you’re like me, after 3 hours your neck stiffens, your shoulders begin to ache and your posture begins to slump.

I discovered a new product. The LifeSpan treadmill desk that takes all the stress out of work and adds fun and health benefits instead.

Not only will it add those benefits to your life buy by staying on track you will be able to curb those carb cravings, low blood sugar and more.

Even if you walk or bike to work its not as fun and as healthy as staying in the privacy of your own home, no noise or pollution… this is the environment you can control… which leaves plenty of time and space for you to breathe healthier air.

What I love about the new treadmill desk is the challenge you make to yourself. If you have a deadline… you can walk your way to the finish line. Studies have proven that people who are walking or cycling experience a feeling of greater well-being, concentrate better and demonstrate less of a strain when it comes to anticipating their work and deadlines.

Researchers from the University of Quebec found that walking 10,000 steps a day or more is associated with smaller body fat percentage and lower weight among 50-to-70-year-old women. Do you know a good way to ensure you get more than 10,000 steps in your day?

The creative process could be defined as solution based. In most scenarios it is. But how to get from point A to Z is always a challenge. A Stanford University study showed that people do better on tests for creative thinking when they walk, compared with when they sit.

Face the facts and then start walking to extend your life. Experts tell us that prolonged sitting has been linked to heart disease and high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol, and people with the most sedentary time are more than twice as likely to have cardiovascular disease than those with the least. Diabetes has also been linked to a sedentary lifestyle.

The pancreas produces insulin, a hormone that carries glucose to cells for energy. But cells in idle muscles don’t respond as readily to insulin, so the pancreas produces more and more, which can lead to diabetes and other diseases. A 2011 study found a decline in insulin response after just one day of prolonged sitting. And because studies have linked sitting to a greater risk for colon, breast and endometrial cancers one theory why  is that excess insulin encourages cell growth. Another is that regular movement boosts natural antioxidants that kill cell-damaging — and potentially cancer-causing — free radicals.

Researchers from Harvard presented a study in 2012 showing that it’s possible to cut the effects of a genetic predisposition to obesity in half if you walk at a brisk pace for an hour each day. Imagine your not driving to work instead you are walking to add years to your life. What better way to get in shape, increase your creativity, reduce stress, and find solutions that makes work enjoyable and productive.
